Oh No Cano

As the Red Sox celebrated their third baseball championship in the last ten years, the New York Yankees watched in despair.

All-Star second baseman, Robinson Cano, declared he wanted a 10-year $300 million contract. The Yankees have an affinity for spending truck-loads of cash to lure free agents.

Now their home grown talent, is on the free agent market. Instead of signing Cano, the Yankees have lured Boston all-star Jacoby Ellsbury to a 7-year, $153 million deal with the hated Yankees.

This immediately upgrades the outfield for the Yankees. Now they have a lead off batter to replace the great Derek Jeter.

The Yankees have taken a core piece of the 2013 championship team. Can Ellsbury be an impact player for seven years, probably not. But for the next four years, Ellsbury will be an effiecent lead off man and will steal a ton of bases for the Bronx Bombers.

Will the signing of Ellsbury affect a deal with Cano?

Only time will tell, but the Yankees are making impactful moves to improve from last year’s lackluster performance.
